R&B Music Video

Usher - Good Kisser

Performance Music Video

Fashion/ Costume/ make up

In this music video typical fashion is sometimes converted and sometimes subverted.

MEN:

Men are usually topless in an R&B music video. Usher is seen in this video with minimal clothes on; this is because it appeals to young females who would find this attractive and R&B singers want to target these more young female adults/teenagers. In the early 2000's male R&B singers would usually wear jeans, slightly lowerd down so we can see theier boxers but because time has changed and this is no longer fashionable we don't see this is Usher's music video.

Alot of R&B singers have tattoos and the majorty of the time it's on their chest/ arms this makes the tattos more viable when they are topless, this makes them look trendy and again appeals to the younger audience. Unlike males in hiphop R&B singers wear less jewellery, this is why we hardly see any in Usher's music video.

WOMEN:

Women in an R&B music usually have minimal clothes on and thier stomachs/ legs are on show majority of the time. We see this in Ushers's music video with the ,main midel and the female dancers. Women wear heels in R&B music videos to make their legs look longer. However sometimes women wear trainers for choreographed scenes and we see this with the main model and dencers in Usher's music video.

In a typical R&B music video womens hair and make  up was usually very dramatic. Their makeup would also be bold and defined, especially with thier eyes thy would always dark coloured eye shadow with gold which make their eyes stand out. Most times women would wear red lipstick to convey thier promiscurity/power. However, times have changed and bold makeup like dark eyeshadow isn't trendy anymore and this has been shown in Usher's music video. The women in this video wear subtle makeup by wearing nude lipstick and hardly wearing any eyliner/eyshadow (e.g. the main model). The only bold cmakeup see is the blue lipstick but even this isn't a typical lipstick colour.

Big jewellery e.g big earrings and neckalces  but very little is worn in an R&B music but when women wers more jewerlley than men tyhey a breaking gender stereotypes becuse men usually wera more and women keep it simple in a music video. this is slighty done in Ushe's music video, as you can see the model wear a bigger chain than Usher suberting typical R&B conventions.

Relationship Between lyrics And Visual

As this is a perfomance video there's hardly any link between lyrics and visual, however there is a strong theme.

[Hook:] I done been around the world

I done kissed a lot of girls So I'm guessin' that it's true Make me holla and I bet a million dollars

Don't nobody kiss it like you

Don't nobody kiss it like youDon't nobody kiss it like you, bang, bang, bang

Don't nobody kiss it like you

Don't nobody kiss it like you

[Chorus:]
'Cause she's such a good kisser
Got lipstick on my leg
Oh, baby
She's such a good kisser
I'm a rain on this parade
Oh, baby

(Yes, let me tell you something)

Throughout the music video we see extreme close up shots of lips from different types (e.g. ethnicity) of women like the picture down below. These women are would most likely be doing seductive things with their lips, this links in with Usher singing 'Don't nobody kiss it like you' as he he is not only talking about kissing with his partner he also hinting at his partner giving him 'good' fellatio.

Relationship Between Music And Visual

"Good Kisser" is an uptempo "stripped-back soul-funk" R&B song. we don't see a lot of link between the music and visuals but these are the example I've found:

We get a medium shot/ medium close up of Usher playing the drums at the same time its played in the song.

The editing was made to match the music, for example the cuts in the music video go with the beat of the drums making it interesting to watch.

Choreography was done to match the rhythm of the song. Usher adds popular dance moves the willl appeal to the younger audience, the female dancers are given sexual movements to attract the male audience Usher may have.

voyeuristic treatment of the female body

The camera movement replicates the way a male would look at a woman he finds attrative. It focuses on the women hips, lips and other parts that can be sexualised, in this case it's about the lip becuse it links in with lyrics. This is seen in the video with the main female model.
