This is a narrative music video, which isn't very typical for a hip hop artist. Hip hop music vidoes usualluy consits of dance moves, jewerlly, cars and money but we don't get that in J.Cole's video. Instead he uses dogs to illustrate the story of him losing his virginity.
Relationship Between Music And Visual
The camera is focused on the male and female dog. The beat and rhythm of the song goes at a slow pace and the editing is done to match this. There are close- ups of the male and female dogs to show that they are the main protaganists. The camera move in slow motion to match the chilled vibe of the music. This is also done to allow the audience to follow the sotry J.cole is rapping about. WeThe camera is mostly focused on the male and female dogs when J.Cole raps. We get a medium long shot of the dog walking with he's head down. This indicates Cole felt embarrassed to tell her that he had no experience and he's worried that she will find out the truth.Many of J.coles listeners (moslty male) would connect with verse becuse it is very common for a male to over- report the number of sexual partners becuse they care more about matching the sterotype for thier gender.
We see a long shot of the female dog winking at the male dog, this tells the listeners that J.cole's dream girl is expecting alot from him.
Long shot of the male dog itching its body is a representation of a J.Cole being nervous. As the camera zooms up, the dog looks like its in it's own world, again this represents how J.cole must have been distracted thinking abot the weekend possbilities with this girl, His brain’s in the bedroom but his body’s in class. He fears that if his teacher made him stand everyone would see that the “lil' man” was awake.

voyeuristic treatment of the female body
Although humans have hardly been shown in this video we can still say that there's a voyeuristic treatment to the female dogs body. ( e.g. pic of female dogs bum and tounge) because the female dog is a representation of an actual female it be could viewed as quite degrading to women as they are being portayed a sex objects. However, the male gaze wasn't done to appeal to the male audience it was
mainly done to allow the audience too look at how the male dog feels about the female dog and emaphasis how the male dog is drawn to the female dog.
